W.Va’s Finest Talent Competition Audition Schedule

This is the 6th year for the W.Va.’s Finest Talent Competition!  Vocalists from all over the state will compete for cash and prizes and the right to be called one of “W.Va’s Finest.”  Winners will be chosen in five genres of music for those 18 years and older:

R&B/Jazz/Blues
Country/Folk
Pop/Rock
Gospel
Hip Hop/Rap
Ages 10 – 17 compete in the Youth Division in the categories.  A winner will be chosen from each category.
10 -13 years
14-17 years

Audition Fees:

Individual Adults – $25.00

Adult groups (up to 5 people) $40.00

Individual Youth – $15.00

Youth groups (up too 5 people) $30.00


Contestants may audition using a karaoke cd or pre-recorded instrumental track.  They may sing a cappella or accompany themselves on piano or guitar only. (No instruments will be provided)  (Groups – everyone in the group must sing.)
The semi-final/final competition will be held on November 19th at Tamarack in Beckley, WV.  There will be a $200 cash prize for each winner as well as various other prizes and gifts.  For more information on all locations, call 304.763.8706 or email wvfinest@yahoo.com.  Please call or email to reserve an audition spot at the location of your choice!

CASTING CALL, PSA

Carlyn Davis Casting is looking for REAL current or former military men and women and their spouses, 20-30 years old, for a non-union PSA about possible mental health issues due to combat, stress, etc. The audition and shoot will take place in the month of August, with an audition likely next week in Falls Church, VA. All roles are paid. CASTING CALL FOR LATE 70s MODEL VEHICLES

Carlyn Davis Casting is looking for late 70s model cars for the new Ben Affleck film “Argo,” which is scheduled to shoot in the DC area in November 2011, and potentially close to the Thanksgiving holiday. The casting agency is looking for non-descript cars, trucks, vans, etc. (NO hot rods, at this time). GRB Entertainment is casting for ”Double Life,” a new TV series from the executive producer of “Intervention.” If you feel like you¹re living a lie or keeping a secret from your family and friends and want to make a change, GRB is looking for people who are genuinely interested in finding healing in their lives. The goal of the series is to help people rebuild and heal fractured lives in a non-exploitive and sensitive manner. Cyndi Bess is a graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music (MM) and Morningside College (BME) and from West Virginia University (DMA). She holds degrees in vocal performance, musical theatre, and music education. Display space for West Virginia craftsmen and artists at 40th Annual Enlisted Association National Guard US National Conference

The West Virginia Army and Air National Guard will be hosting the 40th Annual Enlisted Association National Guard US National Conference on August 14 – 17, 2011 at the Charleston Civic Center.  Expected attendance of 2,000 from 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam will include State Command Sergeants Major, State Command Chief Master Sergeants, Operations Sergeants Major, Army and Air Force Supply Sergeants and Logisticians, Senior Command NCOs, Property Book NCOs, Air Force Unit Equipment Managers PLUS officials from Congress, the Department of Defense, the National Guard Bureau headquarters as well as The Adjutants General (TAG).  They will be welcoming soldiers, airmen, retirees and their families to the Mountain State.  This is West Virginia’s opportunity to shine and the EANGWV has arranged display space for West Virginia craftsmen and artists to exhibit, free of charge, during this time.  The only cost would be for table, skirting, booth supplies.  Set-up is August 13 with tear-down the evening of August 16.  If you are interested in exhibiting, please contact SFC Patricia Kishman,patricia.kishman@us.army.mil or 304.201.3801 as soon as possible.

ELIGIBILITY
HxWxD was created in 2007 by the Rosewood Gallery as an opportunity for artists to exhibit their work and for the community to experience the quality and diversity currently being done in sculpture. In 2011, the show changed the eligibility to include artists living in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. All types of 3-D mediums are welcome, including: clay, wood, stone, fiber, metal, glass and mixed media. The work must be able to fit through the 34″ x 79″ doorway and must have been created within the last four years.

Morgantown-based memoirist Patricia Harman will be featured with Morgantown Poets at 7pm Thursday August 18 at Monongalia Arts Center (MAC). An Open Mic follows immediately thereafter.

Patricia Harman has spent more than 30 years caring for women as a midwife. She became one of the founding members of The West Virginia Cooperative of Midwives. For the past 20 years Harman has been a nurse-midwife on the faculty of Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve University, and most recently, West Virginia University. Her first book, The Blue Cotton Gown: A Midwife’s Memoir, which detailed her experiences, was published in 2008. A prequel, Arms Wide Open, was released in April 2011. Harman still lives and works with her husband in Morgantown at their clinic, Partners in Women’s Health Care.

Public parking is available near the MAC in the parking garage at the corner of Pleasant and Chestnut Streets and at the city lot behind 142 High Street (enter off Spruce). The MAC is accessible to individuals with special mobility requirements; schedule ahead at least two days prior to the event by calling 304-292-3325, or write to info@monartscenter.com.

Morgantown Poets is an informal not-for-profit, all-volunteer community group that meets 7-9 p.m the third Thursday each month at the MAC, providing literary enthusiasts in north-central West Virginia the opportunity to express themselves, share their work, network and to connect up-and-coming writers with more established authors.
