The Image

Have a novel in mind?  Want your poetry published?   Want to make your writing more vivid for your blog readers?  This workshop, taught by instructor Vincent Caruso, is for the beginner and intermediate.  It will focus on the Image.

Image is the backdrop of the metaphor and the description behind the character.   Participants will read selected works from the ages that employ images, in many ways, to make the writing more vivid and palpable.  The reader wants to touch and see the images. In a very nonjudgmental way, different writing exercises will be completed to strengthen the images.  Whether the image is contextual or simply isolated, participants will try out different methods to make what is written seen in the mind’s eye.  Every effort will be made not to inhibit the style or feelings of participants, so fun may be had while improving skills.  Attendees may bring their own work but it is not a prerequisite.

The Image workshop will be held on Saturday, October 22, 1 – 4 pm.

MAC members $27; nonmembers $30.

To register call MAC at 304-292-3325, or email info@monartscenter com

All ages are welcome!

Saturday, January 7 – Drypoint engraving printing, 11am-4pm, $45

By using the drypoint printmaking method, scratched plexy glass will be used to create an image. To make a print, the scratched plate is inked all over and then the ink is wiped off the surface leaving only ink in the scratched lines. The plate is then put through a press together with a sheet of paper, making a print. This process can be repeated as many times to make several prints. Drypoint offers the ability to explore line quality and detail in drawing.

Saturday, January 21 – Gelatin Printing, 11am-4pm, $45 adults $25 students 17 and younger

Gelatin printmaking uses a pan of Knox Gelatin that is covered with water-based ink. This spontaneous printing process creates unique prints using leaves and other elements of nature. Each participant will be able to create unique works of art without having to draw.

Saturday, February 4 – Collograph Printing, 11am-4pm, $45 adults $25 students 17 and younger
