Morgantown Poets ft. Author Suzanne Heagy – Feb. 18

Morgantown PoetsMorgantown Poets will feature Fairmont-based author Suzanne Heagy at 7pm on Thursday, Feb. 18 at Monongalia Arts Center (MAC). An open mic night for new and veteran authors will follow immediately thereafter.

Suzanne Heagy has published short stories, poetry, and creative essays about literature and also worked as an editor for many years.  She has recently published her first novel, Love Lets Us Down, set in Indianapolis. Heagy is formerly a professor of English at Fairmont State University.

Morgantown Poets ft. Daleen Berry – Jan. 21

Morgantown PoetsMonongalia Arts Center (MAC) is pleased to host the monthly meeting of Morgantown Poets, featuring Morgantown-based author Daleen Berry, at 7pm on Thursday, January 21, 2016. An open mic for new and veteran writers will follow Berry.

Daleen Berry was the mother of four children by age twenty-one, who later went on to become a New York Times best-selling author. She has authored or co-authored four books, including the The Savage Murder of Skylar Neese (2014), which looks at one of the most shocking crimes of the decade. Berry’s memoir, Sister of Silence, details her journey from victim to survivor while growing up in Appalachia. Since the publication of her Skylar Neese books in 2014, Berry has appeared on the Dr. Phil Show, 20/20, the Today Show, NBC Dateline, Lifetime, and Discovery ID, and in print publications such as Elle and People. Her latest release is the nonfiction book Guilty by Matrimony.

Morgantown Poets ft. Author Patricia Hopper Patteson

Morgantown PoetsMorgantown-based author Patricia Hopper Patteson will be featured by Morgantown Poets at 7pm on Thursday, December 17 at Monongalia Arts Center (MAC). An open mic will follow immediately thereafter.

Patricia Hopper Patteson is a native of Dublin, Ireland. She earned a B.A. and M.A. from WVU.  She received honors from the WVU Creative Writing Program and also received numerous awards from the West Virginia Writers’ competition ranging from second place to honorable mention. Her fiction and non-fiction have appeared in Amore Magazine, Appalachian Heritage, Hamilton Stone Review, Ireland’s Own, Mist on the Mon, Woman, Woman’s Way, and Woman’s World.

Monthly MACscriptwriters Meeting

scriptwriters logo LONGMonongalia Arts Center (MAC) is pleased to announce that it will host MACscriptwriters on the second Tuesday of the month from 6 – 7 pm.

After great community response and a successful trial meeting of the group in November 2015, MAC decided to instate monthly group meetings for MACscriptwriters. The next meeting of MACscriptwriters will be held on Tuesday, December 8 from 6 – 7 pm at MAC.

“MACscriptwriters offers a supportive, positive, and encouraging environment with a focus on helping scriptwriters — both new and experienced — to bring their new works to completion,” said MACscriptwriters facilitator and local Morgantown author Theodore Webb.

Morgantown Poets ft. Author S.A. Check

Morgantown PoetsAuthor S.A. Check will be featured by Morgantown Poets at 7pm Thursday November 19 at Monongalia Arts Center (MAC). An Open Mic follows immediately thereafter.

S.A. Check is a Science Fiction and Fantasy author whose first novel, Welcome to GreenGrass, was released in 2013, being reviewed as “Men in Black meet interplanetary Columbo”. His latest novel, Maxx Fragg,V.P.I. is a dark urban fantasy published by Ink Smith Publishing. His work has been featured on various websites such as Locus Online, Horror Drive In, SFReader, Book Goodies, SFScope, Scoop, Paranormal News, and Horror World, as well as a number of writing and entertainment blogs.
