Allegheny Chamber Players.Group PhotoMonongalia Arts Center (MAC) is pleased to host a one-night evening performance by the Allegheny Chamber Players on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in the Tanner Theatre. Please note that this concert was originally scheduled for Sunday, January 24, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Entitled Music for 1 to 4 Players by Beethoven, Mozart, Piston, and Schumann, the Allegheny Chamber Players concert features Sara Beattie on cello, Natalie Buckley on piano, Jeanne Frieben on clarinet, Anne Hamilton on viola, Matthew Held on bassoon, John Morrison on piano and violin, Alyssa Schwartz on flute, and group director Christopher Wilkinson on clarinet.

The Allegheny Chamber Players are a group of musicians dedicated to the performance of chamber music composed originally for amateur performers by many notable composers including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Johannes Brahms.

Group director and professor emeritus of music history at the West Virginia University School of Music Christopher Wilkinson explains, “Before the advent of recordings and radio, dedicated amateurs played their chamber music and that of numerous other composers for family and friends in many homes both in Europe and America.  In some notable instances distinguished professional performers joined forces with them to do so.  The ACP is determined to continue that tradition.”

Many of the musicians in this ensemble received at least part of their professional educations at the West Virginia University School of Music and are currently pursuing careers in the field both as members of regional orchestras and as teachers.  Each of the amateur players is studying her/his instrument and its associated chamber repertory with a professional musician in the School of Music at WVU.

Admission to the performance is $10. Tickets are available at the MAC Lobby Desk, 304-292-3325, and

MAC is located at 107 High Street, Morgantown, WV.  Inquires should be directed to or 304-292-3325.
